What are Restylane, Juvederm and Belotero?

We now have long lasting, safe ways to improve wrinkles with minimal downtime and very little discomfort. Restylane, Juvederm, and Belotero products are composed of variations of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring hydrophilic polysaccharide moleculewith superb results that last six months to two years. They can be injected in a 15 to 30 minute session to soften lines that run from the nose to the corner of the mouth (nasolabial fold), fill in and augment thin lips, sunken areas on the cheeks, and to correct the sad expression that appears at the corners of the mouth (marionette lines) with advanced age. Advancements now allow us to fill in hollows under the eyes, and the results are often dramatic. On younger patients the same products can be used to highlight or contour certain features, such as the nose or the lips. On males these techniques are used to strengthen masculine traits, such as the jawline or the chin.

Recent innovations in soft tissue augmentation relate to volume replacement. We now understand that many changes previously associated with sagging are in fact related to loss of fat and facial volume. The doctors at Oak Dermatology are masters at volume replacement. They can achieve beautiful, younger, and most importantly, natural looking results that are simply amazing. The impact of volume replacement cannot be overstated, and having the right physician do your treatments is essential. By carefully placing volume in the correct location (temples, cheeks, jawline), the doctors are able to create natural contours with a more youthful, more rested appearance. Some patients are concerned with being overfilled after seeing unnatural results on television reality shows, and even on their friends. This is why selecting the right doctor is essential.

Most of these hyaluronic acid products contain anesthetics, so supplemental anesthesia is usually unnecessary. Occasionally, our physicians use topical or local anesthesia to make the procedure more comfortable, especially when treating the lips.
